Guest Bio: At 20 years old, Heidi Amour took an intensive course to receive her certification as a Massage Therapist and Healing Touch Energy Worker with the intention to work with Hospice patients. She received her training at the SOMA School of Massage in Oakland, CA and was trained by an esteemed Practitioner by the name of Robert Brown, who was himself a student of Ida Rolf of the Rolfing Institute in Colorado. In 1991, she began her studies in the field of Surgical Technology to further her knowledge in physiology, anatomy and healthcare and shortly after began working at the Los Angeles Center for Gynecologic Oncology for a renowned Cancer Surgeon. Throughout her 15+ year of working with cancer patients, running cancer support programs and being a Patient Advocate for hundreds of women, she was blessed with the opportunity to utilize her studies to offer pre and post operative healing sessions to those going through cancer treatments as well assist in guiding them to integrate complementary and alternative therapies into their healing journey.
Several years ago she began a personal journey of her own and was forced to overcome many difficult life challenges that led her to discover Yoga and what it had to offer in assisting the healing of mind, body and soul as she endured years of stress, loss and great shifts in her life. She attributes the reinstating of joy and restoration of her quality of life and ability to heal gracefully through these experiences, to her dedicated personal yoga practice and leaning on Restorative, Yin, and Gentle Yoga as well as meditation and pranayama and exploring the deeper psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual support that Yoga offers.
In the process of reinventing herself at 47 years old, she decided to follow her deep calling to further her studies as a Holistic Practitioner and enrolled in Teacher Training with Rene Quenell at Yoga Madre in Sierra Madre where she completed her 200 and 300 hour certifications. She is a 500 HR Advanced RYT and teaches group classes, leads group workshops and private one on one sessions. Her style of teaching is heart based and compassionate with focus on the subtle body, breath and meditation work. When not practicing or teaching yoga, Heidi is a dedicated mother to two daughters and continues to work in the medical field with breast cancer patients going through the reconstruction process.
