It’s amazing how many lenses we use to view our own body!I sometimes feel like I have a few pair of glasses I wear to try not to see the lump here or there but I will get back to that…in my next post! I first want to talk to you about my first week going on the raw side.
The first two days I was immersed in the world that you see on the Earthly Juices’ website.
I met Ellie Lara through our graduate school program and it was just one of those instant friendships. It felt like we had known each other forever and we finally met up after a long time to just have a good laugh. The beauty that came out of this friendship has been bountiful. Where there is love there is fruit. So with her tender hand she introduced me to a way to go about my new goal. As mentioned before I had been looking for a way to work on my physical health but just did not see a light that caught my eye.
Having said that, the way I began to eat after Ellie Lara and Jennifer Houst’s guidance (Founders of Earthly Juices) was literally well Awesome!
I began with detoxing teas then had sprouted lentils and grains with various veggies in salads, wraps, smoothies as seen on the Earthly Juice’s Facebook page and as seen on their site www.earthlyjuicecart.com. And of course the JUICES!!!
Towards the end of my first day of eating raw I seriously had a headache but oddly I felt like my body was saying thank you. So I took the recipes as found on the site and began to use what I had to start my journey. However I did hit a couple walls that you might share with me reader. The first wall I hit was a major one that many people are facing. The lovely economy. For some reason it has been a societal trend now to believe that if you want to look good you have to have money to do it. Well yes we need some form of exchange to buy food but with an open heart you may be able to gather some belief that things do come to you if you receive it. It is your admission to your goals that will propel you to stay strong in your efforts to gain optimal health. When you get to that core you realize that eating more fruits and vegetables organic or not, basically whatever you can allow yourself to afford is better than eating that chocolate candy bar and box of nerds for a snack. You’re going to spend money anyway to fill your belly so why not buy what you can that is good for you? I realized that in some ways we form an addiction to the heavy carbs and fats that we feel we have to eat to save money. It is the belittling of the self that make you believe you cannot eat like a king or queen when you keep thinking you are a pauper. Love is infinite therefore if you tap into that you might be able to let go enough to allow the universe to provide you with what you need. It sounds simple but it is a process like any life change or shift in your style that you may decide to make.
Saying we only deserve the cheapest food in the store or deserve that chocolate ding dong because you can’t afford what you really want is an addiction to eating unhealthy and that my friend is believe it or not connected to the unhealthy thoughts we feed ourselves. We forget what a dollar can buy. You can buy fruits and vegetables instead of that bag of chips or that row of doughnuts left over from the morning bakery. That was my common drill. I would go by the local grocery store towards midnight and get the marked down baked sweets so I could have a cup of sugar in my belly in the morning. Yes, (clearing throat) hi, my name is Tina Narang and I was a sugar junky, I am now one week sober. Rediscovering the beauty of fruits and vegetables seems silly but it does happen.
I will not say I am going to be a 100% raw but I will say that I am detoxing by being a pretty close to it. So the headaches were expected and in the next couple days I went into a foggy state. I was not tired but I did feel like I was walking in some sort of cloud. I believe anytime we change something in our lives we experience discomfort. Change is never easy but it does propel you forward and will show its harvest in time. It is like running a marathon granted I have never run one (stayed tuned I am getting there!) However I used be a dancer and am an avid runner and roller bladder enthusiast slowly picking up her running shoes and wheels again.
But I feel like some experiences in life do feel like a non-stop movement to some goal that you sometimes think you will never meet but then suddenly there you are at that goal meeting another goal for you to conquer! It kind of feels like this: You feel that burn, the energy shifting and moving around. The mind is re-acting; the body is retracting you get all weird and feel drained. Then the shift happens right when you can smell the sweet dirt sifting in the air drifting from the upcoming finish line. The wind exhales a breeze that brushes over your sweat as though Mother Nature is wiping your brow to give the reassurance you suddenly need because you now want more than anything to just keep moving. You think you can make it. Then you pray you will make it! You feel that last surge of energy; a light sparks behind your eyes and then, you PUSH! Suddenly you go into a trance and like magic there you are on the other side like yesterday never happened.
And really it is not like magic, it is magic. You can change the way you eat it is not a privilege this is you’re right!!! It always has been. Keep pushing to the finish line and meet that next goal like the warrior you are and do it with open arms! You can do this! And if you doubt it watch me and see how far I go.
Before I go here are some tips:
Drink Detox tea throughout the first two days when you start (you can buy this at a local market, sometimes they are on clearance because the grocery store is trying to clear out certain items so keep your eyes peeled like an orange ready to be juiced) with goji berries. You can use any fruit really. Obviously drink plenty of WATER!
Research the purposes and nutrients found in different fruits and vegetables. See what fruit or vegetable calls to you and then look at Earthly Juices’ recipes and see what you can put together.
Start touring your produce isle! Try mom and pop produce stores if you cannot afford organic. I cannot right now so I just go to the fresh farm markets and local grocery store look for what calls to me. Then using the Earthly Juices recipes outline I do my best to create a great salad or collard green wrap. If you can do organic than do it!!! If you cannot then who cares do what you can to keep loving your whole self buddy!
Basically a collard green wrap is putting your salad and sprouts in a collard green leaf and wrapping it. It can be more complex but on a budget you can just go for that idea.
The major step to start your day however is to make that smoothie or juice!!! Look at the site folks! If you must invest in anything get flax seed oil and olive oil. You can put flax seed oil in the morning smoothie or juice and then use the olive oil in your salad or wrap. You can take whatever fruits you have and just put them in the blender. A banana is good to keep things sweet and you can throw a piece of kale or spinach to add extra fiber if your body calls for it. You can freeze your banana (I mean the fruit naughty one) over night then pop it in the blender in the morning. You can also do this with strawberries or any fruit. Just don’t leave them in the freezer forever! Just wake up, open the freezer, peel your banana, dump the fruits, (you put in the night before) use that blender, put some water if you like, add your flax oil, blend, drink and mend you’re body right!!!
You can start with just a blender. That is all I have right now. I don’t have a juicer. I am just using my blender and relishing in what I have and what I get with it. It’s a rhythm to eat healthy. Once you get started it will flow. Don’t force yourself start with what you can, and then build. A house is started with the laying of just one brick; all the pieces don’t need to be there over night. Have faith in your intention and in the process of life. This goes with anything. Don’t let finances tell you what you can eat! Fruits and vegetables are not privileges there the earth’s gifts which are your RIGHT! Being tender with yourself and fierce to those negative thoughts that hold you back are what will help you stay focused.
These are just some hints I have for now, you immaculate creation of earth! 😉 And I hope you pay it forward! So stay tuned!!! Follow me!!! I have so much more to tell you but for now I must be off, my smoothie is getting warm. 😉
