 Downtown Los Angeles, Little Toyko
Looking for Shojin, A Vegan, Raw, Organic & Marcobiotic Dining Gem!ÂÂ
There’s no doubt that there are so many things to do on every given weekend in sunny Los Angeles! As a native to Southern California and 4th generation “Los Angelina”,  I have been blessed to have grown-up with an incredible amount of  cultural diversity, access to unique activities, world class museums, abundant art galleries, and last but not least, THE FOOD!
This weekend I spent the afternoon and evening with my brother and his finance, who are both  living in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, near the historic Boyle Heights area. As residential artists, they are most definitely in the “know” about the best places to shop and eat. We started the evening with a stroll through the Los Angeles State Historical Park where we found the up-and-coming Renegrade Craft Fair. The Renegrade Craft fair is an amazing traveling market, and consists of about 300 talented artists and their DIY goods and classy artwork. The jewelry artisans were my favorite! Check  http://www.renegadecraft.com/ , it is heading up to San Francisco, July 31- August 1st . So don’t miss it, if you are in the Bay Area!
Okay, now for the food!!!
We stopped in on Shojin, located in the heart of Little Tokyo, just inside the Little Tokyo Shopping Center 3F.
Shojin, is a Japanese restaurant and creates the most wonderful vegan, raw, organic, and macrobiotic cuisine. The menu is extensive and delicious. During July they serve a Vegan & Organic Sushi night, the manager recommended we come back for more on Monday and Tuesday Nights! What makes Shojin so unique is that EVERYTHING is made fresh from their very own kitchen. “Everything” includes, the original broths and organic ingredients that make up their delicate dishes. Shojin makes their own miso and soup broth bases, the noodles, and all of the original sauces. Shojin takes prides in the fact that that they do not use outside food purveyors for many of their ingredients and create traditional, from scratch, Japanese Organic Vegan and Raw cuisine coming directly from the  kitchen. The food is absolutely delicious.ÂÂ
They serve two amazing RAW salads, the RAW Apricot Kale Salad and the RAW Ume Sea Vegetable Salad. I ordered the Bento Box (vegan) which served up a sushi roll of the day (Avocado & Shitake) and choose two entrees, the Okara Cake with Vegan Mayonnaise, and the Spicy Tofu. There are so many choices on the menu, and everything is amazing! Don’t Forget the dessert, we practically tried them all! I loved the RAW Cheesecakes, Spicy Carrot Detox Cake was my favorite, along with the RAW Lemon Cheese Cake. Check out http://www.theshojin.com/index.htm!
